Tanjong Rhu

About this book

Tanjong Rhu in Singapore harbour has changed a lot for some recent decades. In the past it was a place with a few small shipyards. Fishing boats were built there and children looked for crabs along the beach. But today it is very modern. There are many office buldings. The Singaporean people have also changed. Mr Li is a successful businessman. He has modern views and ideas. But his mother is the complete opposite. The woman respects traditions and remembers the old times with happiness. Mr Li is sceptical of his mother's beliefs. Only after her death the man suddenly feels the connection with old customs and the spiritual world. This story shows the contrast between the traditional and modern views in Asian society.
