About this book

The protagonist of this story had been friends with a man named William for many years. A few years ago, William Legrand was very rich and successful. But then many unpleasant things happened to him. The man lost his wealth. It influenced William greatly. He left his home and moved to Southern California. There he built a small hut for one person and began to live there with one elderly servant. William was an interesting person – he was very fond of hunting and fishing. He also collected shells and different types of insects. This man was incredibly smart. One cold day, the protagonist went to his friend. He knocked on the door, but there was no answer. Then he found the hidden key and went inside. He decided to sit near the fire, while waiting for his friend.
